Obtaining an Order of Protection

If you have been harmed or threatened by your spouse and are concerned for the safety and well-being of your children, you can ask the court to issue an order of protection. This will prevent your abuser from contacting you or your children or from coming to your home or your place of work. When you file an order of protection, you will be required to attend a hearing where a temporary restraining order will be issued.

If you wish to obtain a permanent order of protection, which can provide you with relief for up to two years, you must attend a second hearing. The other person may be at this hearing to defend against the charges. Our Barrington order of protection attorneys will attend this hearing with you to present evidence supporting your need for a restraining order.

Protecting Against False Accusations of Domestic Violence

While most domestic violence claims are legitimate, unfortunately, these claims can also be used to hurt a spouse or to gain an upper hand in a divorce. If you have been falsely accused of domestic violence or served with an order of protection, it's important to discuss your options with an experienced lawyer. We are familiar with how these claims are abused in family disputes, and we will help you develop a strong defense against the charges.
